Performance evaluation of burst-error-correcting codes on a Gilbert-Elliott channel
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this letter the performance of single burst-errorcorrecting (BEC) codes used over bursty channels is evaluated. The channel is represented by the Gilbert–Elliott (GE) model, which has been used by numerous authors to evaluate the performance of random-error-correcting (REC) codes over bursty channels. Recursive expressions are derived, which are used in evaluating the probability of a codeword error. These expressions and an approximate closed-form expression are applied to the performance of a single (23,12) BEC code.

Performance Evaluation of Bch Correcting Codes on a Fading Channel Using Ofdm Modulation
In this paper, we evaluate the performance of BCH (Bose-ChaudhuriHocquenghem) correcting codes when used to protect data over a land mobile channel using OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) modulation. To deal with memory channels, the Gilbert-Elliott (GE) model was considered to simulate a Rayleigh fading channel and BCH codes to analyse the error process. Relating GE parameters ...
متن کاملAlmost Sure Convergence of Relative Frequency of Occurrence of Burst Errors on Channels with Memory∗
Motivated by intention to evaluate asymptotically multiple-burst-error-correcting codes on channels with memory, we will derive the following fact. Let {Zi} be a hidden Markov process, i.e., a functional of a Markov chain with a finite state space, and Wb(Z1Z2 . . . Zn) denote the number of burst errors that appear in Z1Z2 . . . Zn, where the number of burst errors is counted using Gabidulin’s ...
متن کاملPerformance analysis of the error-forecasting decoding for interleaved block codes on Gilbert-Elliott channels
This paper investigates the performance of the errorforecasting decoding for an interleaved block code on Gilbert–Elliott channels in terms of the word-error probability, which is the sum of the decoder error and failure probabilities. We derive expressions by constructing several Markov chains, starting from a two-state Markov chain of the Gilbert–Elliott channel model. The derived formulas ar...

Markov chains are a popular means to capture correlated random processes for characterization and analysis of error pattern or bursty traffic in data transmission. The performance evaluation of communication protocols based on Markov models is tractable with limited state space and often depends on efficient implementation. Simulation or other methods have to be adopted for system of higher com...
